Show Summary: “Productivity should not be an uphill battle.”

Are you more creative and intuitive than logical and systematic? Do you consider yourself a right-brained human being? If yes, then today’s session is about you.

In our last few episodes, I’ve introduced you to my friend Ate RJ Vargas, who is a highly emotional and intuitive person but is also someone who didn’t know how to stay productive. In today’s episode, we relive her story, share with you the strategies I’ve used to help her find her purpose and increase her productivity, and talk about the science behind the techniques.

Through Human First Productivity, aka productivity for normal people living normal lives, we go into a deeper understanding of ourselves, our working habits, our chronotype, and our likes and dislikes. The objective is to find the right productivity technique that suits us best. For example, in Ate RJ’s case, an important strategy I used is energy matching, where we matched her high-energy tasks with when she’s most energetic. This allows for flexible work hours, which Ate RJ is most comfortable with. The moment she feels tired and her energy drained, she stops working. Through this approach, Ate RJ no longer feels overwhelmed, lazy, and unproductive. In fact, it increased her efficiency and maximized her output.

So take the time to truly know yourself. Don’t force yourself into a strategy that doesn’t align with your personality. Don’t work for the technique. Make the technique work for YOU.

Don’t forget to share this episode with your equally creative family and friends!

Show Highlights:

What is a chronotype, and how does it relate to productivity?

12:18

  • By definition, a chronotype is a unique classification that defines your sleep and productivity schedules. It tells you when your brain is most alert and active during the day.

  • Knowing your chronotype helps you synchronize your brain with your daily tasks and physical activities so you can become more efficient and productive.

How does energy matching work?

11:05

  • Simply put, energy matching means matching high-energy tasks during high-energy states of mind. When you’re an emotional person who relies on your energy to get you through your activities, this approach will help you deliver more without subjecting you to strict schedules and time blocking.

  • The science behind energy matching coincides with the use of our brainpower. Each task that we do requires different levels of brainpower. For example, dedicating an hour to writing a novel uses more brainpower than simply processing emails. It is only logical that you write (or any other high-energy task) when your mind is most active. This approach gives you flexibility with your time yet enables you to stay productive and complete your deliverables.
