Welcome back to Raw Magic, where the treasure you pursue resides in you, because you were born for greatness. In this episode, Susan-Jane Rome takes on a topic that is often talked about, but rarely unpacked: Fear.

SJR begins by reminding us of an all-too-familiar moment from childhood, when a noise in the dark caused us to fret about what could be lurking, and stopped us from turning on the light. She has a giggle about the fact that we still do it as adults, but when fear stops us from living our lives in the way we desire: it's a problem.

She explains that there's nothing to gain, and no good to come from shrinking away from who we truly are meant to be. Playing small does not serve our world. She goes on to share that by liberating ourselves from fear, we inspire others to do the same, allowing their light to join ours and shine brighter than before.

SJR talks about the different manifestations that appear in people who are avoiding the things they are afraid of. Things like procrastination, perfectionism or even bravado can appear as a result of trying to escape the things we're afraid of confronting. She brings up “Fight or Flight” and expands upon it by unveiling that it's actually “Fight, Flight or Freeze”.

She shares ways that fear oozes out into our lives when we don't address it properly: things like transactional relationships, a sense of irresponsibility, blame, people pleasing and so many other behaviors and manifestations. She also tells a story of a conversation she had with an acting teacher in New York, and the result of that interaction.

SJR lists some of fear's more distant relatives: Things like confusion, deflection, self fulfilling prophecies, being a victim, narcissism and so many others. She also shares another story, as well as a piece of writing to help further illustrate the beginnings of fear, and the control we desire over our surroundings that ultimately cost us a part of ourselves.
