Burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress, typically related to work or caregiving responsibilities. It is characterised by feelings of overwhelming exhaustion, cynicism, detachment, and a sense of reduced accomplishment or effectiveness. Burnout can manifest in various ways, including fatigue, irritability, decreased motivation, and difficulty concentrating. It often occurs when individuals feel overwhelmed by the demands of their roles and perceive a lack of control or support in managing those demands. Burnout can significantly impact one's well-being, productivity, and relationships if left unaddressed.
