Gird means 1. to encircle or bind with a belt or band. 2. To surround; enclose; hem in.
3. To prepare oneself for action. 4. To provide, equip, or invest, as with power or strength.
1 Peter 1:13 says Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Scriptures about a runner being in a race:
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
Galations 5:7 You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me:
“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets,
so he may run who reads it.
Jeremiah 12:5 “If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you,
how will you compete with horses?
And if in a safe land you are so trusting,
what will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?
Joel 2:7-8 Like warriors they charge;
like soldiers they scale the wall.
They march each on his way;
they do not swerve from their paths.
They do not jostle one another;
each marches in his path;
they burst through the weapons
and are not halted.
Job 40: 16 Behold, his strength in his loins,
and his power in the muscles of his belly.
"Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened" is taken from Ephesians 1:18 which says having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints
