One of the biggest expenses in owning rental property is the cost of utilities—electric, gas, water, sewer and trash.

The better we understand these costs and how to control them, the greater our profit potential can be.

Often, tenants are responsible for paying their own utilities, but many owners pay these costs on behalf of the tenants because of how the systems are split and billed by the various providers.

Today, we discuss how owners can maximize ROI through submetering (the practice of installing individual meters for utilities (such as water, electricity, or gas) in rental units or properties) and utility billing with Kelly Koontz, President of Submeter Solutions.
