In today's episode, our guest, Alvin Corbett, tells his story about living in the New Jersey housing Projects. Once a fairly normal community, the 80s and beyond brought the "Dog Pound" projects into turmoil as the crack epidemic came in full swing. Alvin lost many people dear to him, and saw his community turn dark from drugs, violence, and murder.
Despite his troubled upbringing, Alvin managed to persevere and survive amongst the trauma. His story and experiences highlight the real and raw dangers of the crack epidemic to the African American community during the 80s. His first-hand accounts of his life paint a upbringing of trauma and pain, that eventually leads into prosperity and success.
