#80: This week we bring you a LIVE podcast recording at the 2023 Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) Conference, featuring special guests Cynthia Moreno and Angela Maxwell. Cynthia, the Executive Director at NAADAC, grew up in the foster care system and has dedicated her life to helping children and families like hers. Very few people speak for the children, and it is Cynthia's vision to give kids the opportunity for a chance at life.
Angela serves as the President of NAADAC and works as a substance use prevention professional. She is an ally who advocates for folks regardless of where they are on the continuum of recovery, and works tirelessly to support the workforce within the recovery industry.
Check out the episode to learn more about NAADAC and to listen to our conversation with Cynthia and Angela, which includes:
- Why it's important to advocate for our own recovery workforce.
- The importance of finding opportunities and spaces to just show up, especially in early recovery. Sometimes we can get intimidated thinking about the big process.
- As providers in the community, we must look for doors to open for folks and to let people know we're here to help.
- This line of work can be challenging and uncomfortable, but once you give into it, there is a whole new level of connection.
- The importance of pouring into yourself so you can pour into others.
