In this episode of the #maketechhuman podcast, host Matt Mira discusses the “Future of Smart Cities” with Mark Bartolomeo, Verizon’s VP Internet of Things, Connected Solutions; Ricky Corker, Nokia Networks’ EVP, North America; and Brian Partridge, VP, Research & Consulting, 451 Consulting. Much to Mira’s delight, the smart city of the future sounds a lot like Walt Disney’s original vision for Epcot, right down to the intelligent, connected transportation systems and efficient real-time resource management.

Something on everyone’s mind as the Internet of Things comes online — especially in light of recent remote hacking incidents of “Things” like a baby monitor and a car — is that as every aspect of our lives becomes fully networked, we have to increasingly address issues of privacy, security and system vulnerabilities. And we need to be prepared for when 5G networks become a reality in a few years, and the bandwidth barrier evaporates, because then anything will be possible, including fully immersive VR. What else?
