In this life, there are dream killers. Guaranteed If you have a dream or a vision to accomplish something there will be people, perhaps even family who will try to kill your dream. Sometimes it's even the dreamer that kills by labeling the goal as too difficult or impossible, so they stop dreaming and become one of the dreamless brothers. In the context, I am speaking about a dream being a vision of a preferred future. It could be a God-given dream or a practical goal to accomplish. We all should have hope for the future! Ask yourself if you are helping other people accomplish their goals or are you trying to kill their dream because you are envious. Big picture Read these chapters 27-50 for yourself…. Take some time. You're going to have it speak to your life. Your going to get something out of it that I may not even see. Abraham Genesis 22:18 “This is what the LORD says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that 17I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.” Genesis 50:20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. God works above, beyond and through your worst times. If you think your family had issues look at Joe's. You must know his dad who was a fraternal twin non- identical. Jacob- dad has a problem with the truth. Joseph was Jacob’s eleventh son and also Rachael’s firstborn. 4 stages of Jacobs life. 1. Grabber- grabbed Esau’s heel, birthright, stole his blessing. Deceives his father with a goat to steal the blessing. Con-man 2. Grabbed- Laban takes years of his life and tricks him into marrying the wrong cousin. Jacob 1 would have run. Jacob 2 waits for God to tell him to leave. 6 years. 3. God Grabber- wrestling with God. Father of the 12 tribes of Israel. 4. Grabbed by God- moved to Israel to build a nation out of his family. Dinah raped- Genesis 34 Simeon & Levi. Jacob doesn’t act… Because he doesn’t exercise his leadership there is a vacuum created and Simeon and Levi use God’s covenant to bring excessive revenge. Rueben- Jacob’s oldest son from Leah Joseph’s brothers see him coming from a way off and they say look here comes the Dreamer let’s kill him. Reuben said let’s not kill him let’s just throw him into the cistern and let him die. That way we won’t have to shed any blood. His brothers put him in a cistern and Reubens plan is to come back and let him out. Judah sees a group of traders heading to Egypt and says we shouldn’t kill our brother when we can sell him. So, they sell their little 17-year-old brother into slavery. \ Brothers know that the dreams mean something. Actively worked against these dreams. Gen. 37:26-28 So they sell Joe out.. then we have an awkwardly placed story about Judah. Meanwhile… in Gen. 38 Tamar is Judah’s daughter in law first married to Er wicked God takes his life then Onan doesn’t want to obey tradition and does the deed doesn’t share the seed so God takes his life too, Shelah is too young. Judah go back to your parents home and I will arrange for you to come when Shelah is old enough to marry… Judah doesn’t really intend on doing this because he thinks Tamar is bad luck. Judah’s wife dies. Show Map of where Joe goes to find his brothers. Moving the sheep to food. God bless the dreamers and help us to have His vision for the future. Dreamer- Joseph Dream Killers- Brothers kill him in their mind. Our jealousy can kill people in our mind. They are dead to me etc. Dream Saver- Reuben oldest (not bold enough) Dream Seller- Judah (lesser of 2 evils) Still not right. We will be judged one day by God not for choosing the safest, best action but whether we did what was right…. Even if it cost us. Jacob- Dad feels the pain of deceit and lies yet h did the same thing. (how to mess up… do you have favorites hopefully not. Sometimes I’m a bit happier about one of my kids. How can opposition make you stronger? Josephs trials of building character You can build it we can help. 1. God brings good out of Evil and Joy out of Pain 2. Integrity outlasts wicked gains 3.
