Target Audience
This activity is targeted toward primary care, neurology and other specialties caring for geriatric patients.
Statement of Need
With the aging population it is imperative that providers routinely assess older adult patients, not just the frail elderly, for the presence of geriatric syndromes. In some cases, early identification may lead to intervention strategies that will improve patient outcomes.
Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:- Define the scope of geriatrics.
- Distinguish between geriatric depression and dementia.
- Describe diagnostic guidelines for geriatric depression.
- Discuss treatment options for geriatric depression.
- Recognize earlier signs and symptoms suggestive of decline in function.
