Migraines, Part 1: Overview and Diagnosis

Target Audience

This activity is targeted toward all physician providers.

Statement of Need

Data indicates that approximately 12 percent of Americans suffer from migraine headaches. Migraines are more common in women than men, with a three to one ratio. Additionally, a migraine is one of the top reasons that patients visit their physician. Therefore, providers should be current on recognizing the symptoms of migraines as well as how to treat migraines or when to refer to a neurologist.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:

  1. Define headache disorders and migraines
  2. Identify the steps to effectively diagnose migraines
  3. Describe the red flags in the evaluation of headaches
