This week is Raquel’s surprise pick, 2000’s HIGH FIDELITY. It seems that both Raquel and Raphael agree that while being a great Chicago film, it might not be that good of movie altogether. Perhaps not even the best adaptation of a Nick Hornby story. Raquel wonders why Raphael loved it so much when it first came out, and Raphael explains how he had his road to Damascus moment that Rob Gordon probably isn’t someone you want to aspire to be. Is HIGH FIDELITY successful at doing what it set out to do as a film? Is there the ability to gatekeep culture today the way the characters did in 2000? How big of a jerk is Rob Gordon? There’s even some light Jack Black chat!

The Generation Splice is film podcast where retired psychologist Dr. Raquel Martinez, a Baby Boomer through and through, and her son Raphael Jose Martinez, a cranky Millenial punk rocker, former music journalist, and current film writer, discuss various films through the lens of their generation & personal experiences. Every week one host picks a film for the two of them to dissect and see if they can splice together the generation gap via their love of the movies.
