Show Summary:

“We take care of our material things like our homes and cars so well, but we don't care for our bodies the same way. Remember that the more you take care of your body and do preventative maintenance, the better your body will show up.”

Do you struggle with the demands of your business and feel the pressure to keep up with the pursuit of success? It’s understandable to feel overwhelmed and burnt out in these situations; however, neglecting your health and well-being can prevent you from performing at your best.

Despite the distractions and responsibilities that can consume your time, you may feel guilty for even thinking about considering self-care. However, taking small steps in prioritizing your own needs and reconnecting with your body can do wonders for your inner peace and ability to navigate life’s challenges.

My guest today is Dominiece Clifton, founder of Move and Still, host of The School of Healing Podcast, and a beloved client of PodKai Media. In this episode, Dominiece shares her expertise on holistic wellness and healing, including how to build a daily self-care routine despite a busy schedule and somatic practices to manage stress and release trauma from the body.

Find a balance between movement and stillness, rest and work, and doing and being. Listen, and remember to share this episode with fellow podcasters and content creators!

Exceptional Highlights:

  • Trauma is stored in our bodies, not our minds. A somatic approach allows us to release stress and tension in the body to heal truly.
  • Discipline is not about doing something perfectly every day but consistently returning to the behavior even if you fall off for a while.
  • We are born connected to our inner voice or intuition, but as we grow older, we learn to seek external validation and lose touch with it.

Show Highlights:

The body remembers everything that happens to us, and issues can manifest physically and mentally.

Dominiece 05:23

  • We must understand the reasons behind physical symptoms and ask difficult questions about what the body is trying to communicate.

Taking care of ourselves enables us to show up better for work, relationships, and responsibilities because we can give from a full cup.

Kai 09:29

  • Neglecting self-care can lead to suppressing and holding onto things, ultimately resulting in exhaustion and burnout.

The key to building self-care habits is consistency, not the amount of time spent on the practice.

Kai 13:46

  • Set the intention to find small pockets of time in your day to nourish and focus on yourself and be gracious with yourself if you miss a day or two.

Meditation and embracing stillness can help us reconnect with our intuition and align with our soul's path.

Dominiece 23:58

  • Ideas arising during these practices are often considered divine downloads, as they come from intuition rather than survival-oriented minds.

Breathwork can help quiet the mind, eliminate confusion, and repair and restore the body.

Dominiece 32:32

  • Constantly practicing breathwork can help with stress, anxiety, and depression.

Success often requires a team effort.

Dominiece 43:55

  • By investing in people who can help actualize your vision, you can reduce stress, free up mental space, and have more time to focus on self-care.
