Michaela trains diligently, focusing on both competitive shooting and defensive skills, viewing each day as an opportunity to grow and improve. Beyond shooting, Michaela finds joy in her service dog, Tucker, and hopes to work towards more American Kennel Club titles with him. She also dabbles in other personal protection skills and adaptive sports, though her passion lies with firearms. With a vision of independence and inclusivity, Michaela is determined to continue breaking barriers and showing others what’s possible when resilience, support, and adaptive tools come together. At the Combatives Summit, he leads Fight to and Over the Gun: Disarming Techniques for Violent Encounters , a course focused on disarming violent actors and maintaining control in critical situations. His scenario-based training allows participants to safely practice neutralizing threats. With extensive experience as a defensive tactics, firearms, and scenario-based instructor, Kato also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earned under Professor Mark Vives. Beyond his own department, Kato consults with law enforcement agencies to enhance their training programs and reduce injuries among officers and suspects. Recognized by the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA) in the Chicagoland area, Kato is also an ILETSB Certified Instructor with four state-certified courses.
