Early Childhood Educators

So a very special episode – number 50 – and one to me that is a huge sigh of relief, it is a
milestone I have been aiming at for almost a year, a bit of grit and determination has
come out on this journey to number 50!!
Have you had a goal that you didn’t really think you would make and then surprised
yourself by kicking that goal out of the park – I think thats a bit how I feel.
It makes me smile
determined to set new goals
and give myself a fun hi 5
Then I think of all the wonderful educators this Shine as an Educator podcast has helped
as well as all the new connections we are creating as educators. It makes me feel super
proud and quite determined to go another 50.
Remember
I share what I see each week – questions I am asked – challenges I can see educators
struggling with. Celebrating wins and achievements, new skills and values we find.
So what now – how do we make these podcasts just a little bit more interactive? a little
more helpful? a little more meaningful to you?
I would love you to let me know your thoughts and suggestions. I have some great ideas
with new goals but I would love to know what you think as well!!
Your Critical Reflection Question today
Is a little different, thought provoking and will be challenging to a few.

Your Critical Reflection Question is

WHAT DOES YOUR MINDSET SAY ABOUT YOU AS AN EDUCATOR??
I know right, a little odd and what do I really mean?
This week I had a wonderful discussion with an educator about her journey to become an
early childhood educator. She was struggling with the enormity of the task but also the
downright scary thought of changing everything she had been doing as a career to date
so that she could pursue becoming an educator.
Now I think I was less help then I meant to be. She wanted to know if I had been scared
to become an educator? I said to her – This is who I am, it is scary to me to think of doing
anything else.
See we all have our comfortable place – that place that we feel like we belong – where
we feel like we have it all together and where we know we make a difference.
Now I can tell you as an Early childhood educator that I don’t have it all together
sometimes, running my own business can be hard and icky and sometimes downright
infuriating and I want to jump up and down and say why me??
But our mindset is what makes us continue or throw in the towel.
Our mindset says I just can’t do this or says how can I make this work.
Our mindset says this is who I am with unquestioning determination.
Have you reflected on your mindset and what it says about you as an educator?

My Challenge to you today

TAKE ACTION WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN PUTTING OFF ACTION!!
– DIG DEEP – IS THERE SOMETHING YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO DO!!
Have you been scared, procrastinating, putting off, just for a while something that
YOU know you need to do?
Having a difficult discussion with a parent?
Putting your photo up on some advertising?
Maybe a fee increase in your service?
Re-visiting your systems?
Or purchasing some new resources?
Check out Simple Reflect – The latest documenting tool for Educators
One of my favourite episodes from this year is actually episode 17 Shine as an Educator
– So I broke my leg! I know a little odd that this would be my favourite but I shared in the
episode 3 take aways from the experience.
I will put the link in the notes if you would like to have a listen or a read.
The number 1 take away was…
Focus on being well, take steps to nurture and fill your own cup before others…
Now to me this connects super well to mindset. If you are not looking after yourself
you are not going to be in the mindset of being strong, clear headed and determined.
Determined to have clear goals and take action when needed.
Caring for other peoples children is a very humbling yet challenging profession.
To be caring, knowledgable and effective early childhood educators we need to take
regular action, we need to have our wits about us – WE NEED TO HAVE STRONG
MINDSETS.

TOP TIP TIME

FOCUS ON BEING WELL – Doing what you need to do for yourself and your family.
BE BRAVE – This is something I say regularly, take a deep breath and even if you can
only be brave for a minute or two to get done what needs to be done it will be worth it.
RECOGNISE – If you are struggling, procrastinating, putting off just for now something
you need to do, recognise – take time to reflect on WHY?
KEEP YOUR MINSET STRONG and you will be the early childhood educator you have
always wanted to be!!

I would love to hear from you

Kath
