Early Childhood Educators

So we are on Shine as an Educator #66
And I have been asked several times this week how I keep up?
How do you keep up?
Well most of the time I do
But this week I found this question a little ironic
And definitely made me feel super guilty, after last week I totally missed our podcast
But it was after sharing a huge daily programming bootcamp that was absolutely
awesome and I will leave the link here in the notes if you would like to pick up the replay.
But the week before – episode #65 was a huge one on programming
Finding a way that works for you
Building confidence and certainty around what you are doing with your programming as
an early childhood educator.
About knowing the EYLF and experimenting
AND just keep going!!
So I know you can feel the irony of me being asked this week how I can keep up?
Because the answer is the same as the last podcast.
I have found a way that works for me!!
When it comes to programming, observations, running my FDC as a business, making
connections with children and families, I do it all in a way that works for me.

So your Critical Reflection Question for today is

Have you found a way that works for you?
I ask YOU this question
I ask it maybe 10 times a week
I LOVE asking it to educators
The #REAL answers come out
The confidence
The uncertainty
The need for help OR the direct response of knowing…
When asked this question I know you know the answer
Your inner voice will shout at you before you say anything
YOU will know!!

Your Challenge

Experiment with this question
Ask it to yourself at different times of the day
DOES THIS WORK FOR ME?
DOES THIS WORK FOR ME?
Check out Simple Reflect – The latest documenting tool for Educators
Analyse the answer,
The feeling of the answer – it’s a powerful question – short and sweet.
BUT somewhere deep inside you will know what the answer is.
I have been mentoring a beautiful educator this week, she is time lining or mind
mapping an individual child’s experiences over a single day.
A great way to share with parents the journey of their child’s day
She was absolutely blown away by the amount of experiences this child participates in.
We spent time recognising the learning that had occurred over the day of this child,
looking at the support and extension of learning she could offer.
Now there was two reasons I suggested documenting this way for her this week.
1. To experiment with documenting this way – did it work for her?
2. So that she could see how much she was actually doing in a day as well, I wanted her
to recognise how many opportunities she was giving – supporting – this child in her care.
Did it work – ABSOLUTELY.
This beautiful educator found a new way that works for her, I could hear the relief as well as
excitement in her voice. BUT also she recognised how much she was doing in a day.
I say to YOU
Keep going,
keep experimenting,
find a way that works for you!!

Top Tip Time

The way that works for you, may take some time to find
Don’t let the journey of being an early childhood educator eat away at your confidence,
stay strong.
Know that sometimes you will need to change something
Try something new
Today is the day to start asking your self
Does this work for me?

I would love to hear from you

Kath
