"In every generation they rise up against us to destroy us".
So says the familiar refrain from the Passover Seder. Now it's Hamas's turn, and shocking numbers of people around the world seem to support them.
Why? AntiSemitism is a paradox. Jews are simultaneously hated for being poor, for being powerful; for being communist and for being capitalist. When we live in the Diaspora people question our loyalty to our home country. When we start our own country we hear cries at the UN of "Zionism is racism". Medieval Europe hated us for not fitting in, while Hitler hated us for trying to assimilate into German society.
In this episode with Historian Rabbi Ken Spiro, we're going to delve into some of the deeper insights that explain the real root of antiSemitism, and what the takeaway should be for us today.
