Rafael and "Kansas" explore the evolution of the field of addiction and trauma. Rafael learns how James became "Kansas" and also how he went from working as a lone clinician to becoming the chairman of NAADAC and Director of numerous recovery programs. Kansas Cafferty has worked in the fields of mental health and substance use disorders since 1997. In all levels of care from acute hospitalization to weekly therapy. He has experience with adolescents, first responders, survivors of trauma, and those afflicted with varied addictions among other issues such as mood disorders and anxiety.

Kansas currently serves as the Chairman to the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals at NAADAC where he works to help set regulations and standards for the practice of addiction counseling in the United States and abroad. In addition, he is trained in multiple trauma specific modalities. He is the former clinical Director at Aton Center, and Clinical Director and owner of True North Recovery.
