Our guest in this episode of Stories and Strategies for Women Podcast is Lea Geller. Lea is an author of the new book, The Truth And Other Hidden Things and can be found at her website LeaGeller.com. Join us for some “Mom talk’ with a hilarious author and a thought provoking, upbeat book.
In this podcast episode we cover the humor and sometimes painful honesty that comes with becoming a Mom in today’s world. We use Lea’s character, Bells, to discuss some of the tough aspects of motherhood. In the story Bells is a stay at home mom of two kids, one in high school, And one in middle school when she finds out that her iud has failed and she is pregnant. Who even knew that an Iud could fail? Lea did!
Bells finds herself moving her family to a small college town in hopes that her professor husband will make tenure. She is an at home who desires to be a successful writer amidst her increasing responsibilities as well as the responsibilities thrust upon her by a community of what the authors terms “extra moms.” You guessed it. We are talking about the Moms who do extra.
Lea and I dig into the truisms of motherhood including:
*** mom judgement - we see it, we feel it, do we give it too?
*** the expectation of everyone in a Mom’s orbit - children, spouses, mothers, mothers in law, friends, neighbors, etc.
*** the horrific college search experience and why the Mom’s need for counseling during that brutal experience is not far from the truth
*** the hidden reasons Moms torture themselves to outdo each other
*** women’s writing and Lea’s publishing story - an inspiration.
PS. Lea Geller’s first book, The Trophy Life is next on my list.
