You have one minute to decide
Ten years ago, Alexis Ridge-Simek got a call that changed her life forever. A newborn baby named Aria needed a home and was being released from Temple Hospital at that moment. Would Alexia take her in as a foster child? She had one minute to decide.
Community support, Friends, Family
As you will hear in her story, Alexis emphasizes how important community support was for her and her family as they welcomed Aria and took on her love and care. Alexis and her family did not stop there, though, in their support of the foster care program. Aria had been brought to Alexis wrapped in a blanket with an over-sized onesie. Alexis had the support of family, friends, and church to fill the immediate needs for Aria but many children who enter the foster community have nothing to bring with them to a foster home.
The Fiaria Project: Kits for Kids in a New Foster Care Home
You will hear about Alexis' adoption process, the foster care process, and how the Fiaria Project is making a difference for kids 0-18 who are helped with a kit of brand new items to take with them at this stressful moment in their lives. Some of the "kit" items might include:
The Fiaria Project, in its 6th year in 2022 has begun a Capital Project for expansion. For those who wish to donate or volunteer at the Fiaria project, you can find all the information at their website, Fiaria.org. Alexis has invited the audience to ask any questions about the Fiaria project or the foster care process. Her email is on the Fiaria Project website.
Do You Want To Get Involved With Foster Care?
Alexis mentions the Children's Choice organization where you can find more information about Foster Care and Respite Care in the Philadelphia area. (Volunteers who support Foster Parents by offering baby- sitting support as needed)
Alexis also mentions her yoga studio: Dragon Fly Yoga
