Insomnia is a very common ailment that impacts millions of people worldwide (more than 3 million cases reported in the United States each year).
Insomnia is defined as a condition that leads to persistent problems falling and staying asleep. Most cases of insomnia are related to poor sleep habits, depression, anxiety, lack of exercise, chronic illness, or certain medications. Symptoms may include difficulty falling or staying asleep and not feeling well-rested.

Treatment for insomnia consists of improving sleep habits, behavior therapy, and identifying and treating underlying causes. Sleeping pills may also be used, but should be monitored for side effects.
In Episode 10 of The Makin Wellness Podcast, I am pleased to welcome Jason Cercone, our Executive Producer for the podcast, onto the show to share his recent experiences with insomnia. As you'll discover, Jason's issues stemmed from working late and being glued to a computer screen (plus his website crashing and years of work being lost in the process), thus impacting his ability to "shut down" and fall asleep when his head hit the pillow. Fortunately, he was able to change some habits that allowed him to return to a more reasonable sleep schedule.
