Our latest guest needs little introduction in the world of women's football. At just 16 Lauren Perry made her senior International debut in goals for Northern Ireland. Since then the young player's star has shone brightly taking her to various clubs, Championship League experience, and to winning major awards such as NIFWA Women’s Football Personality of the Year and NIFL Player of the Year. Currently signed with Dundee United Lauren explains how from a young age she knew she wanted a career in football.
Prof Mackay first met Lauren in 2018 when she came to him for InternalBrace surgery for a ruptured ACL injury and he clearly remembers her calm and optimistic attitude back then when focussing on her recovery. Sadly though Lauren has recently ruptured her other ACL and suffered the massive disappointment of not being able to play for her country in the recent Euros. Typically though she once again focussing on the future.
Jennifer is surprised to hear she has not had her surgery yet after she walked into our studio with no crutches or sign of a limp so conversation ranges over how this is even possible with cruciate damage, and then on to the latest treatment options and research conclusions.
Of course, we also take the chance to chat tactics, penalty shootouts, what it takes to be a good keeper, and the sport's bright future with one of its most talented stars.
