For many travelers, Antarctica is a bucket-list destination, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to touch all seven continents. In 2023, a record-breaking 100,000 tourists made the trip. But the journey begs a fundamental question: What do we risk by traveling to a place that is supposed to be uninhabited by humans? And as the climate warms, should we really be going to Antarctica in the first place? Who would have thought that a career in international supply chain logistics could lead to the launch of a sustainable golf clothing line? Today, I’m sitting down with Ali Putnam, a mom to five boys and the founder of A. Putnam, ”a luxury resort-to-sport brand for women that honors the traditions of golf”. Like most female golfers, Ali was frustrated at the extremely limited choices she had when it came to quality golf attire. This frustration sparked her journey into business and fashion design, which was always driven by her love for the sport and a strong commitment to sustainable practices. Ali shares how she juggles entrepreneurship and motherhood day by day, all while setting ambitious goals to make her mark in the industry. Creating golf apparel that seamlessly transitions from the course to everyday life is no small feat, and Ali takes us through her creative process to accomplish just that. By experimenting with fabrics and styles, Ali designs versatile pieces like structured skirts and reversible bomber jackets that cater to women of all ages and styles. She explains how she’s navigating the retail landscape, weighing the pros and cons of distributing her line at big box stores and exclusive country clubs. She also gives her thoughts on how social media is revolutionizing fashion and the importance of staying true to one's vision in a constantly changing market. Finally, from costly photo shoot blunders to the strategic shift from influencer partnerships to authentic connections with everyday women, Ali opens up about the countless lessons she’s had to learn as an entrepreneur! “You have to play golf to get better at it. Being out on the golf course is so crucial–you have to put yourself in an uncomfortable position to get more comfortable at it.” Justin Klemballa is back to talk about how golfers can crush the 75 Hard Challenge and come out physically and mentally tougher than ever! Listen in as Justin walks us through his morning routine to show how he uses habit stacking, consistency, and a sprinkle of discomfort to ace his goals. We'll uncover how little daily actions like staying hydrated and reading 10 pages of a great book a day can supercharge your growth. Justin does a deep dive into the mental game of golf, focusing on the importance of celebrating small victories, replaying only your winning shots in your head, and consistently channeling positive vibes even during high-stakes tournaments. Finally, you’ll learn how well-structured 30-minute practice drills and daily workouts can strengthen your confidence and resilience on the green. Interested in the 75 Hard Challenge? Pushing past my comfort zone in golf has always been a challenge, but with the help of the ever-amazing Colorado Hall of Famer Kim Eaton, I went on a journey that led me all the way to the USGA Mid-Am. Today, Kim and I are reflecting on how entering some of those more intimidating tournaments can actually elevate your game. I talk about my commitment to compete in the Arizona State Match Play Tournament despite initial hesitations. One thing stays pretty consistent: The friends we make and the personal insecurities we overcome at these events always end up being as rewarding as the game itself. Kim had a packed summer. From one tournament after another–from the Senior Match Play in Colorado to an unforgettable win at the state Mid-Am–Kim gives us an insightful blow-by-blow account of her prep work all through to the end of each match. Finally, we talk about the ins and outs of organizing large golf events, and weigh the pros and cons of various locations to create the most memorable experience possible for all participants! When my mom accepted the invitation to join us for the 2024 California Crush Invitational, I knew it would be an unforgettable experience. My sister Alix joins me today to reflect on Mom’s first-ever golf tournament experience and the lessons women golfers can take to heart through her example! From Napa to Tampa, Mom’s unique challenges as a first-timer speak to the women out there who are thinking about taking the leap into their first tournament, but for one reason or another, they are holding back–whether due to a higher handicap index or otherwise. With Mom being a casual golfer by nature, Alix and I never felt prouder witnessing her achieve her first birdie! She adapted beautifully to the formalities of an 18-hole match, thanks in no small part to the supportive environment we were immersed in throughout those two amazing days! Of course, it wouldn’t be a conversation with Alix without a diversion into the latest golf fashion trends (can you say “wide-leg pants”?). I’m back with golf coach Justin Klambala, who's making his return to competitive golf after a hiatus since 2009. With his signature energy and passion for the sport that we’ve all come to know and love, he’s here to tell us all about his comeback and the lessons he’s learned along the way! Justin kicks things off talking about the differences between outcome goals and process goals, and why our long-term success in any endeavor–golf or otherwise–depends on making more of the latter. Drawing from his personal experience, Justin illustrates why keeping your focus on the present moment during tournament play is one of the best things you can do, and why obsessively checking your score ultimately makes little difference on your ability to win! “All I can do is try to hit great shots,” Justin says. “If I do that, I’m stacking the odds in my favor and do my best. If my best beats everybody else that day, I win. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t!” Finally, Justin shares why being your own cheerleader is a game-changer for building confidence, the self-talk secret that separates great golfers from average golfers, and his career goals moving forward. What a fun episode we have today with Evan Singer and Matt Cermak from The Par Train podcast joining us. We are filling you in on 5 ways you can be miserable on the golf course – this is a must-listen! Key Highlights: Expecting what you do on the range to happen on the course. A warm-up is just that: a warm-up. Your best swing or putt is an outlier, not an average. Trying to shoot your best score. When was the last time you actually shot your best score when you “tried” to shoot your best score? Don’t reinvent a past victory. Instead, recommit to earn a new victory. That is, don’t look at the finish line. Focus instead on the process—the journey—that will result in a win. Trying to impress others. Since we’re only human, we can’t help but care what others think; but, when we let the opinions of others influence our performance on the golf course, we end up doing worse than if we just put aside that insecurity. Assume you won’t make mistakes. Just because your last round was perfect doesn’t mean this round will be perfect. Golf is a game of recovery. Don’t get too high, and don’t get too low. Take care not to rest on your laurels after every good shot and beat yourself up after every bad shot. If you get too high, you create unnecessary pressure on yourself come the next swing; and if you get too low, you gradually lose the confidence and motivation to go on.
