When the Maori arrived to New Zealand in 900AD, it was one of the last places to be settled on Earth by humans. They brought many elements of their Polynesian culture to the Islands, but none transformed the landscape as much as their use of fire. Modern Maori scholars shed light on the important role that fire has always played in their lives, as well as the inherent sense of conservation that is embedded in their culture and approach to the land. Produced by WildFIRE PIRE.
