Be ready for an eye-opening discussion as Ross Szabo helps us understand how mental health aids us in achieving success. In this episode, Ross categorized mental health experiences into five distinct levels to better address them. It starts with everyday challenges like stress and sleep issues, which can cause either positive or negative impacts on one’s health depending on personal experience. Moreover, he stated that mental health disorders are defined as conditions diagnosed by professionals, emphasizing that they differ from everyday emotional struggles, which are often over-diagnosed due to a lack of clear language and understanding.
About Ross Szabo:
Ross Szabo is a multifaceted professional dedicated to mental health advocacy and education. As a curriculum designer and founding faculty member at Geffen Academy at UCLA, where he also serves as wellness director, Szabo works to promote mental wellness among 6th to 12th grade students in an inclusive, university-affiliated environment. His commitment to mental health awareness extends beyond his current role, as evidenced by his previous position as outreach director for the National Mental Health Awareness Campaign from 2002 to 2010. Szabo has further contributed to the field through his authorship of two books: "Behind Happy Faces: Taking Charge of Your Mental Health" (2007) and "A Kids Book About Anxiety" (2023), demonstrating his ongoing efforts to educate and support individuals, particularly youth, in understanding and managing mental health.
