My approval seeking paradigm stems from my childhood and the challenging relationship I had with my father. It manifested in my very low confidence when starting my business. In the early days, I was derailed when I received negative feedback, if I didn’t make a sale, or when prospects were indifferent to my offerings. My own lack of belief in myself stopped me from pursuing my dreams. It took getting fired from one of my subcontracting jobs and my eating disorder diagnosis to wake me up to the negative impact of constantly seeking external validation. We are all good enough. We are all deserving and worthy of the dreams we possess. Seeking approval is not a bad thing, it’s only holding you back when you put all of your value into the opinions of others. In this episode I share a bit of my personal experience as a kid growing up with a dad who had his own demons. This is a frame of reference to how I felt as a new entrepreneur and the actions I took (and didn’t take). More importantly, I share the good and the bad of being approval seeking at work. With lots of client stories you’ll relate to, you’ll learn how to detach from approval and harness the power of your own inner strength and guidance to get to the next level professionally.
