Hello ladies, and Welcome to Episode 8 of The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and in Today’s episode, I’m going to be giving you the insider-secrets on THE toughest job in the world…being a Mom! Let me start with one of my favorite quotes: “I’m a Strong Woman Because a Strong Woman Raised Me.” That has definitely been true in my life and it’s been ESPECIALLY true for me the day I found out that I was going to be a mother. Since I was a career woman, the very FIRST thing I knew that I was going to have to master was my schedule. In other words, I was going to have to organize my day like never before, while doing my best to balance the demands of my career and motherhood.
Now, since I was the mother of a daughter, I knew from day one that the fastest way that I could raise a strong independent daughter was to follow some clear steps, starting with this first one: how did I truly define “strength.” Defining what “strength” was and what it should look like, both in ourselves AND in our daughters, can be tricky—but it doesn’t have to be. Also think about this: what YOU believe about yourself will play a VERY important part on how our children see themselves. And if you are the mother of a daughter, than you need to ALSO keep in mind that how you view a woman’s capability for strength and independence will play a critical role in not ONLY how your daughter feels about herself, but also, how she feels about her actual potential.

Next, you want to make the decision that, no matter what, toxic is a no-go! One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the power of healthy boundaries. Toxic relationships, whether in your personal life or professional life, are never OK. As women, we can be particularly vulnerable to this because EVEN in this modern age, we often get the message that taking care of other people and always being kind/helpful is part of what it means to be “female.” Remember that kindness and helpfulness are important and admirable qualities, but they should never be at our own detriment.
