A secret field that summons lightning. A massive spiral that disappears into a salt lake. A celestial observatory carved into a volcano. Meet the wild—and sometimes explosive—world of land art, where artists craft masterpieces with dynamite and bulldozers. In our Season 2 premiere, guest Dylan Thuras, cofounder of Atlas Obscura, takes us off road and into the minds of the artists who literally reshaped parts of the Southwest. These works aren’t meant to be easy to reach—or to explain—but they just might change how you see the world. Land art you’ll visit in this episode: - Double Negative and City by Michael Heizer (Garden Valley, Nevada) - Spiral Jetty by Robert Smithson (Great Salt Lake, Utah) - Sun Tunnels by Nancy Holt (Great Basin Desert, Utah) - Lightning Field by Walter De Maria (Catron County, New Mexico) - Roden Crater by James Turrell (Painted Desert, Arizona) Via Podcast is a production of AAA Mountain West Group.…

Hi there, I hope you're doing well. A year on... what can I say. Well, have a listen and find out. Keep safe and have a good week
How's it going. Sorry, it's late. I know... What can I say. Anyway, It's a round-up. What does that mean. Not sure really. But lots to discuss and the usual tangents... Peace. D
Happy spring to you. Yes, we've got through winter and some brighter days ahead. This one is a massive ramble. I'm pretty tired and also lacking in energy, but still manage to find something to find inspiration from. Hope you are doing well. Peace.
Good day, How's it going. A verbal utterance about taking ideas from the pad to the kit. And a prologue about using the pad if you've never bothered. All in a day's work. Peace. D.
Just when you think it's safe to go back in to the drum shed.... a curveball comes. Hope you're well. Keep playing, keep grooving, keep happy. Peace. D.
How is it going? It's 2025. Of course, it is. Time move forward. It's called life. Hope you had a great holiday. Today is a lot of post-jet-lag plane talk nonsense and some chat about Rolling in Rhythm. I quite like some of the stuff in this podcast, but it's a bit strange. Peace.
We lost Martin France recently. A terrible shame, and he'll be missed. One of my favourites and a true inspiration to many. A genuine world-class player and educator/teacher/mentor. In other news, I've been getting back into drumming. Well, who'd think that. Huh!?! Peace.
Welcome back, I've been away since Aug 4th. And this episode is a slightly reflective, odd look at the concept of retiring. I'm not retiring, btw. But maybe I already have... Tricky. Peace. D.
Hey, how's it going. Yes, I know, I know, it's late. But it's only a day. But what a difference a day makes... (great song) Check it out. More drums in this episode. Warts and all. Chatting about the job of work of trying to get stuff together. Just another share. And Drum Shed News! It's repaired. (I think... I hope!) Peace. D.…
I've had a break and totally forgot to record an episode last week. Anyway, here we are. Some playing on this episode, testing a new (to me and different) microphone. The EV RE-20. Nice dynamic mic. Hoping this is going to work for me to make sore playing and talking content for the podcast and YouTube. Peace. D.…
Hi There, It might be time to find a new stick. With the sands of time catching up with me, a change of balance might in order. And with that, a new sound? Peace D.
Hi there, I hope you're well. This one is pretty mixed up. Jumps about a bit. But essentially it's about finding where the gaps are in one's playing or one's learning. Probably more the 2nd part of that. Peace out. D.
Hi friends. Hope you are well. Some news and chat (with myself - madman) about working stuff out and exploring if there are more effective ways to get to the heart of the matter quicker. Peace. D.
Hi Everyone, Thanks for coming back. Not much to add, really. Part #2 with Graham. It's great and full of interesting stories, tangents and info. Enjoy, Peace.
Hi There, welcome back and hello to any new listeners. I had a great afternoon chatting to Graham about all sorts of music related stuff. Lots of fascinating personal info about many parts of Manchester culture and music. Sit back and enjoy. This is part#1 of two episodes. The whole interview was around 4hrs 20 mins. Part#2 coming on Sunday 7th Jan 2024. Graham's/808's socials are @massonix808 @808stateofficial Thanks for listening. Peace.…
Welcome back. Hope you have had a good month. It's November now and time to get back in the shed for the winter months. But I've got a few gigs, so what's the vibe... Well, have a listen to this hour or so of rambling nonsense. Peace.
Hi there, A long, meandering ramble that doesn't appear to have much purpose. EXCEPT to say, remember why we play! Hope you endure, I mean enjoy. Peace. D.
Welcome back everyone. Enjoy this couple of hours interview with all round super chap Owain Fleetwood Jenkins. Everything you need to know is contained within. Peace and thanks for listening. D.
.... erm preparation, apparently. Hope you're well. I’m a little earlier with this month's episode. A rambling episode about prepping for different situations, notably the studio, because I'm going to record this coming Sunday. Peace. D.
Hey there, how's it going? Sorry, I had to repost this because I had some issues with my plosives. Don't forget, in these uncertain times, be yourself. Peace. Dave.
Hi Everyone, Hope all is well. I was going to name this 'Levelling up', but that sounded far too political. If you're not in the UK, this won't mean anything to you... Sorry about that. But just some thoughts about the level we play at and finding ways to raise that level. Spring is here, and that always feels like it's an opportunity to explore new things. Peace. D.…
None of the music shared in this belongs to me. These short clips are included just to show examples of tunes that inspired me. Hi everyone, as part of 40yr anniversary month, I'm talking about how inspirational Keith Jarrett was to me in my teenage year, and beyond. Hope you enjoy. Peace. D.
Hello there, I hope all is well. Sorry, this is a few days late this month. I'm getting back in to being a snare drummer at the mo. It's very exciting! (laughing face emoji) Have a great month Peace.
'Ow Do, Hope you're well and happy new year. This year is my 40th anniversary (of playing the drums). I wish I was actually 40! Anyway, some ramblings about gigging and disrespect. Thanks for checking in. Peace. Dave.
Hi everyone, This podcast contains information that might upset some people. I bloomin' hope not! So after a few conversations with some friends/fellow drummers etc... I decided to document this in audio and publish. It might help someone come forward and go to the doctor/seek medical help with something they are worried about. As I mention in the podcast, this story was already featured in a newspaper (Manchester Evening News) and on a website (formally LIFE.org, which no longer exists as far as I know). It has nothing to do with drums. It contains some very personal information about my life and my recovery from Lymphoma, and some people might find some of the details in this podcast a bit unsettling or upsetting. I do hope you enjoy. Peace. D.…
Hello there, A bit of chat about the classic Ted Reed material found in his famous 'Syncopation' book. Hope you enjoy, Thanks and peace. D.
