Happy Human Trafficking Awareness Month!
I first met Maggy Krell back when Backpage was in the press as making millions of dollars off of exploitation. As a young person in my career, I was super inspired to see this badass woman taking on these criminals head-on. In this episode we talk about sex trafficking online, the Backpage case and how it went down, how she handles a high-stress job, and how to fight sex trafficking long term.
ABOUT MAGGY
Maggy Krell is nationally recognized as a legal trailblazer who has dedicated her entire career to seeking justice for vulnerable victims. She served as deputy for four Attorney Generals, taking on high impact cases against predatory lenders who took advantage of struggling families, sex traffickers that preyed on vulnerable teenagers, and attorneys that used their position of trust to exploit immigrant families. She is well known as the lead prosecutor on the case against Backpage, known as one of the busiest places online for the exploitation of sex trafficking victims. She currently serves at Chief Legal Counsel for Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California.
