Have you heard the story of the giant Buddha statue from the 13th Century? I know I have heard it before, but this time, when I heard the story, it hit differently. I won’t give away the story—you can tune in and listen to it—it’s good. I felt that story was an example of how we spend our lives building protection over our purpose, thinking that it's what we need in order to survive. Every negative comment, fear, thought, “failure”, wrong step, missed step, every time we are told we are “too much.” We add layers of “plaster” and clay over our hearts. To the point that we may even forget what is inside of us…who God created us to be. Just like the people in the story- centuries later when they were trying to bring out the terracotta statue’s true beauty and restore it they discovered the true beauty lies deep within and was there all along.
