On August 9, 2016, Colten Boushie, a 22-year old Indigenous man, was shot in the back of the head by Gerald Stanley, sparking a national discussion about race relations in Canada. Stanley was acquitted of second degree murder by an all-white jury. Colten’s mother Debbie Baptiste and filmmaker Tasha Hubbard join us to discuss their film Nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up, the pain of losing a son, and how systemic racism impacts our justice system.
