Jessica Medina is a former lawyer turned Accredited Financial Counselor, on a mission to help attorneys create the financial freedom they need to do big things. She graduated from Columbia Law School in 2004 as a single mom of twins with over $200,000 in student loans and went straight to work at a Biglaw firm. After eight years she switched roles and became Senior Counsel at the Division of Enforcement at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. She left the government to work in an area of the financial industry outside of the securities world and now teaches other lawyers how to use their money to finance their dream lives.

She first joined the podcast in episode 17 in 2021, where she shared more of her personal story and her journey to helping lawyers in the personal finance space. Jessica is now back to talk about her 5 steps to crafting your exit plan. If you’ve been grappling about whether to leave your big law job, or you know you want to leave but think you can’t do it financially, Jessica’s exit plan is for you. Her 5 step exit plan strategy also applies if you’ve experienced a lay off and are struggling with questions of “how am I going to make this work now.” Or maybe the lay-off is your moment to reassess your finances and how you want to live. In this episode, Jessica tackles it all and shows you how to create your exit plan so you can feel less worried and stressed about the financial piece, and more confidence and clear about your next step.
