  1. Write down what your inner critic tells you.
  2. consider how it may be trying to protect you from something (e.g. failure, loss of love/acceptance) by being so harsh
  3. Thank your inner critic for its efforts and tell it that it is no longer needed.
  4. Respond to the harsh comments with compassion, like you would with a friend who is being hard on her/himself.
