In this episode I sit down with Kiran Mann, a resident doctor in obstetrics and gynecology and member of the Be Pelvic Health Aware Campaign to discuss:

  • Definition and symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Factors that may make someone more prone
  • Effects of menopause
  • Diagnosis
  • Are antibiotics overused?
  • Consequences of an untreated UTI
  • How the pelvic floor may be involved
  • Why intercourse can make some people more susceptible to UTIs
  • Douching, vaginal steaming, special soaps
  • The effectiveness of cranberries for UTI

Kiran Mann is a first year obstetrics and gynecology resident at McMaster University and completed her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of British Columbia. She is a member of the Be Pelvic Health Aware team, led by Dr. Roxana Geoffrion, and is also a research assistant with the Centre for Pelvic Floor. She is passionate about patient education around reproductive health, including the pelvic floor and its related conditions. Kiran hopes that this podcast will be helpful for the listeners to learn about the diagnosis, symptoms, treatment, and prevention strategies for urinary tract infections.
