Barney & Friends was a children's television show that became popular in the early 1990s. It features Barney, a purple anthropomorphic Tyrannosaurus rex who conveys educational messages through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, huggable, and optimistic attitude.
On this episode, J.Mix, unlocks her core memories from the show with New Orleans musician and podcaster, Steven Schwartz. Their conversation expands to explore the millennial obsession with nostalgia and the misconstrued realities that manifest from parasocial relationships. J.Mix briefly discusses how believing in Barney was a coping mechanism for her traumatic childhood experiences. Lastly, they make important connections between Barney, Santa Claus, other imaginary creatures, and religion.
