Hello and welcome all to Episode 8. Taraki - Men's Mental Health Awareness.

Mental health problems affect both men and women, but not in equal measure. In England, around 1 in 8 men have a common mental health problem. However, men may be reluctant to seek support for their mental health or disclose mental health problems to loved ones.

In 2013, 6,233 suicides were recorded in the UK for people aged 15 and older. Of these, 78% were male.

Taraki (Defined as progress-movement to an improved or more developed state), an organisation who works with the Punjabi communities to create spaces where all individuals can access mental health awareness, education, and support to better care for themselves and one-another. They focus on a number of areas; creating social spaces to talk about mental health, university projects, talks at faith centres, male mental health, research and carrying out training.

In this episode we catch up with Amardeep Singh and Sandev Panaser, both coordinators from Taraki who specifically focus on men's mental health initiatives.
