In this episode of The Spread, we talk to two members of our audience as they share how their coming out stories shaped their lives. I am joined by Kendi, Eric and the lovely Tapiwa who came in from South Africa. Some of the topics we cover are polyamory, as the curiosity around this topic grows, homophobia in the work place what it’s like living in a homophobic Kenyan home. Coming out allows many people to experience a more authentic version of themselves and may sometimes be done in order to shed some of the dead weight of the facades we wear. In the same breath, I must add, coming out isn’t always necessary. More often, the idea of coming out can cause more harm than good so there are many people living in secret for the safety of their lives and those close to them. Other reasons may include; not wanting to disappoint friends and family, fear of prejudice in the workplace, gaslighting, and a buffet of other reasons. Coming out in a homophobic country is a privilege as I have come to realize and I for one, do not take it for granted. On that note; please enjoy this episode and don’t forget to subscribe to the spread podcast wherever you get your podcasts.
