Dr Emma Svanberg (a.k.a. The Mumologist) is a clinical psychologist specialising in pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. Having always been fascinated by mental health, and how our mental and physical health is influenced by our histories and environment, after completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Emma decided to specialise in the perinatal period and support parents during what is often a delicate time in their lives, when rapid emotional changes and transformation can take place.

Emma offers one to one psychological therapy, as well as group support. She is a keen writer and campaigner for issues related to mental health and parenting and co-founded the Make Birth Better network with Dr Rebecca Moore. She is passionate about spreading the message that it really does take a village to raise a child and that expectant and new mums and dads do need support and should not be expected to parent in isolation. This is why Emma is campaigning for change. She feels that, as a society, we need to begin to recognise how crucial this period of our lives is - so that it can lead to positive change and growth for parents and their children.

In this episode, you'll find out why tuning into your baby's cues is so important and yet so difficult, and you'll understand how small changes in the way you interact with your baby can have a huge impact on your relationship with your child. You'll also learn who you should reach out to and how if you ever feel like you're struggling, and you'll discover why being able to express and vocalise your emotions makes for a healthier approach to your own mental health and your children's too.
