Sharmeen is a double Oscar award winning film director and journalist. She is also the the only female director to have been awarded two Academy Awards by the age of 37 and the first Pakistani to win an Oscar.
Sharmeen has now been appointed as the Director of the new Star Wars film – making her the first female and person of colour to be given that role.
As a film maker, she is not only acclaimed for her work in documentaries, which often centre on human rights and gender equality, but she has directed 2 episodes of the Marvel’s superhero TV series Ms Marvel.
In today's episode, I ask Sharmeen about her life and incredible work and how she found the determination, strength and power to forge such a successful career in the film industry as a Pakistani Female.
