Survivor’s guilt may manifest when Veterans survive a life-threatening situation when their teammates did not. It is a common reaction to traumatic events experienced in combat and a symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This is highlighted by Steve’s account of his personal battles of guilt after the loss of Lieutenant Carlos Diaz, while deployed to Baqubah, Iraq in 2005.
