On this episode, we tackle what I think to be one of the biggest simply complicated topics of all: Self expression. Living your truth, loving what you love and being who you are. It seems like all it takes is to just..well...do it, right? But I’ve always found it much more complicated than that. So many of us have a hard time feeling comfort in all that we are and want to be. Past trauma, unkind words, and the fact that everyone seems to have an unsolicited opinion about what we choose to do! It sometimes feels like we live in a world where simply being you can be a rebellious act, but it’s also one that is most essential for a state of positive mental health.

As always, we begin with a topic breakdown from Jessica Sheriff, who shares with us all of the ways that a person can express themselves as well as the importance of doing so. She reminds us that indulging in the things that make you feel most you can bring invaluable peace to your mind and your life.

To dive into conversation on self expression, we’re joined by Kyle Rowe. Often known as @leptocephalus on Instagram and The Baby Eel on their blog.

I have so many questions as I navigate my own journey with finding myself, and Kyle is so generous in sharing some moments of their own story that help me, and maybe you as well! They’ve walked an inspiring path that has led them to feeling confidence and bravery in who they are with no apologies given.

Kyle tells how they’ve come to find ease in expressing their true self with the world through fashion, color, and their love of all things fun and funky. Lady Gaga, Disney, vintage wardrobe pickles! These are just some of the things that bring Kyle joy. Not only do they express that joy for others to see, but they create space for anyone and everyone to share who they are and what they go through and help in any way they can to make them feel the same joy they do. They share their passions, their tactics for emotional healing, and how important it is to remember to get out of your own way.

What I cherish most about this conversation is how much it shows that emotions are not to only be saved for an “emotional conversation”. It’s important to know that we can all talk about every spectrum of our feelings! What we love, what might be tough right now, and that even though things can get confusing or feel very lonely, you are NOT alone in what you go through.
