Hosts Austin and Jannese have an insightful conversation with entrepreneur Isabella Rosal who started 7th Sky Ventures , an exporter and distributor of craft spirits, beer, and wine. Having lived and worked in two different countries and started a company in a heavily-regulated field, Isabella is no stranger to navigating the paperwork-laden and jargon-infused maze of properly understanding taxes for a newly formed small business. Join us as she shares her story and provides valuable insight into how to tackle your business’ taxes - so they don’t tackle you. We're attacked this week by a kooky romp about oversized crocodile that's eating people where it has no business being. A great cast couldn't quit save David E. Kelly's script for us. Plus we talk Justine Bateman vs the 2nd Mrs Patton Oswalt while Keith fumbles over some words. https://gazafunds.com/ ++++++ Outro: Warwick School Lower School Strings (aged 10-12) performing Crocodile Rock…
Here we are, together again. Our third entry this month is also our third based on a novel. We've got Klaus Kinski, Oliver Reed and introducing: a black mamba. What else could you need? Oh, how about Nicol Williamson? Hollywood Snakes +++++ Outro: Papa Roach performing Snakes
This week we bring you a prime cut of Australian bacon. A pretty straight-forward tale of a wild boar big enough to run off with a 2 yo human child, eat a full grown adult and level several buildings. Plus we once again delve into our feelings and relationship to the Land Down Under. Minty | 10 Things You Didn't Know About Cujo Pillboy | Tubi: The New Blaxploitation Pop Culture Detective | Born Sexy Yesterday +++++ Outro: Wild Boar Song Remix sound🐗 🎧🎶🎶 - Leonard Kapurani…
The film that gave every dog you don't like a new nickname. But let's be clear: Cujo is the real victim in this story. Dog Days: The making of Cujo Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum | Dee Wallace +++++ Outro: Cannibal Corpse performing Rabid
Wrapping up February we bring you a Spike Lee joint. Starring Ray Allen, Rosaria Dawson, Denzel Washington, we were split on He Got Game (1998). Keith found it bogged down by overly long scenes and a tropey-ass B plot, while Z appreciated the time taken with dialog and the musical & visual choices made. Plus we talk the evolution of breast implants in media and give our rankings for the month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_the_Conqueror Rick Rubin interview with Brian Eno +++++ Willie Dixon and Memphis Slim performing Rub My Root…
Oof. Since we didn't care for this one you can hear us discuss Zeljko Ivanek, "going postal" and Corwin Hawkins. The Dark and Gruesome Origins of Going Postal | Today I Found Out What Really Happened To 'Wayman' From 'A Low Down Dirty Shame'? +++++ Outro: Theme from A Man Called Hawk by Stanley Clarke, Butch Harris & Avery Brooks…
Dare we say "neo-noir"? In post-war Los Angeles, Ezekiel Rawlins is just trying to keep a roof over his head. Soon, a job opportunity presents itself that will change his life forever. In his first of two appearances this month, Denzel brings Walter Mosely's Easy Rawlins to the screen. Although it deviates from the novel in some places, the plot unfolds in a crafty, writerly style. Oh man, who am i writing for? Don Cheadle steals the show in this one as Mouse. Lisa Nicole Carson (Coretta) blew us away in her limited screen time. And Barry Shabaka Henley is perfect as the Woodcutter. Outro: Marysue performing Devil with a Blue Dress On…
Kicking off February we are bringing you the Hughes Brothers' follow up to their debut 1993 hit Menace II Society , Dead Presidents (1995). Perhaps overambitious, the film follows a circle of friends from the Bronx as the Vietnam War era impacts their lives and the various ways they try to cope or not. What it delivers in the way of stand out performances and a great soundtrack, it lacks in character dimension/motivation. For better and worse, it feels like a very 90's look at the 70's. +++++ Outro: Blue Mitchell performing Delilah…
We close out January with another cult classic from the wild mind of Frank Henenlotter, Frankenhooker (1990). Lucky for you we did a whole episode without hitting the record button so this is a second take. We talk the 80's crack epidemic, decimalization, and the ableist nature of anti-sex worker rhetoric. Plus our rankings for this month's films. [voice of Nicholas Schou] Did the CIA Actually Sell Crack in the 1980s? | VICE Recent piece on the Tulsa massacre by Equal Justice Initiative MOVE bombing at 30 | Democracy Now! jacob's ladder sound effect: JacobsLadderLong2.flac by Halleck -- https://freesound.org/s/19483/ -- License: Attribution 4.0 +++++ Outro: Public Enemy performing Night of the Living Baseheads…
What happens when a male escort who caters to southern California's elite gets framed for a murder he (maybe) didn't commit? Honestly, we found it extremely difficult to give a shit. At least it wasn't John Travolta. +++++ Outro: Chipmunks on 16 speed performing Call Me
Our second entry this season is Ken Russell's mediation on the roles we play, in and out of the boudoir. With razor-sharp dialogue, fierce performances (Turner and Perkins in particular) and - as to be expected from Russell - stimulating visuals, Crimes of Passion might should be a must-see. At any rate, Keith is un/officially a Russell stan now. [For the record turns out we did in fact watch the "director's cut" available from Arrow ] debunkanitsw on tiktok hbomberguy | Vaccines and Autism: A Measured Response +++++ Outro: Fancy performing China Blue…
Hi! Welcome to Season 6! We start this month of films centered around sex work with Robert Vincent O'Neil's story of girl supporting herself by working Hollywood Blvd, Angel . If dealing with that wasn't enough, there's also a killer on the loose... Get ready for some talk about FOSTA/SESTA. Outro: Evie Sands performing Angel of the Morning…
We end the month, year and season with Brian de Palma's Raising Cain (1992), a film we knew we'd enjoy (again). We discuss the saga of Manuel's troca , this film's permanently foggy park, tripods, und Holländische Winkel . Plus a brief review of the month and season 5. Thanks so much for being here! xo, Z & K +++++ Outro: Wally World performing Raise Some Kaine…
RW joins us to discuss the 1995 family dramedy directed by known homosexual Jodie Foster Home for the Holidays . Plus: Craig Ferguson, Jim Office, My So Called Life , "drunk" tv shows! +++++ Outro: Everlast performing Saving Grace
Bonsoir, les amis- Here we have yet another Hollywood reimagining of a French film with questionable sexual politics that left an impression on young Z. HOW MANY CAN THERE BE??? +++++ Outro: My Hero by Rockabye Baby Music Theme by Professor Ping available on Bandcamp
