Teri Hofford is a body image activist, author, and photographer. She helps photographers embrace the beauty of diversity in themselves and the world. Her book, “The Geode Theory,” allows women to reconstruct their relationship with their bodies. When she looked around at the world, she noticed that certain body types were being erased from history because nobody took pictures of them. And when you look at how the media portrays those bodies existing, it shows a narrow, broken portrait of reality. But fat bodies are having babies, they are getting married — and they are deserving of photos. We can’t let the media define how fat bodies existed. We talk about creating a message and a mission that transcends the medium, taking action when things piss you off, and recognizing fat phobia’s hold on our lives.
