Dr. Mercedes J. Okosi is a bilingual (English/Spanish) licensed Clinical Psychologist in New York City. She is the Clinical Director of the Safe Mothers, Safe Children at NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research, a clinical research project for parents with posttraumatic stress disorder. Dr. Okosi has experience treating populations with a range of complex and co-morbid psychological disorders and socioeconomic stressors. Her primary interest is trauma in marginalized populations, in addition to psychodynamic psychotherapy, severe mental illness, personality disorders, and global mental health.
Dr. Okosi is co-founder of the Coalition for the Advancement of Nigerian Mental Health (CANMH) which aims to raise awareness, encourage dialogue, and provide mental health resources to those at home and in the diaspora. She is also author of "The Complex PTSD Journal: A Guided Journal to Help You Heal, Grow, and Thrive" and "Mental Health Journal for Black Women."
