They discuss the unique needs of Latinx clients, including the cultural richness and diversity within the population, the youthfulness of the population, and the importance of family-centeredness. They also emphasize the importance of social justice principles in counseling Latinx clients, including understanding the context of inclusion, exclusion, privilege, and oppression.

The upcoming book Counseling with Immigrants, Refugees, and Their Families from Social Justice Perspectives will be released in early 2024. This book will guide counselors in recognizing the additional steps they may need to take to account for culture, language, health status, relationships in place, and priority issues (e.g., child’s illness, school bullying, etc.) to be dealt with. Social justice and multicultural counseling competency frameworks ground this text written for counselors in academic settings, conducting research, and practicing in different contexts, from schools and college counseling centers to mental health centers, hospitals, and governmental agencies.
