In September of 2023 Michael Whiteside ran the Wasatch 100 and the Bear 100 only 3 weeks apart. In this conversation we are able to dive into how he was able to build up to that feat and what kind of mindset it takes to run 100 miles!
Takeaways

  • Gradually build up your training and include back-to-back long runs and interval training.
  • Focus on your own progress and avoid comparing yourself to others.
  • Overcome self-doubt by reminding yourself of how far you've come and not letting negative thoughts stop you.
  • Perseverance, mental strength, and overcoming self-doubt are key in ultra running.
  • The mental challenge of ultrarunning is often greater than the physical challenge. It's important to stay positive and focus on the present moment.
  • Feeling proud of your accomplishments in ultrarunning can be difficult, but it's important to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements.
