Progressive overload is a pretty popular term in the online space these days and I want to give you my thoughts about it. Instead of it being another thing you have to try to navigate, I would like to help you understand what it means and whether or not it is something that you need to implement into your workouts.
I do not recommend progressive overload be a focus for everyone in a workout program, sometimes it can do more harm than good. It is important to get consistent with your routine and to be able to execute good form before pushing too hard. Pushing yourself in your workouts is important and there are many ways you can do that. Whether it's the weight, reps, sets, or tempo, it's all about striking a balance and not losing sight of the fact that progressive overload is not to be mistaken for a some sort of magic, but rather a tool that can be counter-productive if misused.
Remember, it's not about jumping in headfirst into grueling workouts. It's about preparing your mind, mastering the basics, and then gradually stepping up the game. Speaking from personal experience, I can tell you that your workout priority should be all about setting a realistic workout schedule, getting your form right, and picking the right weights. Find out how I navigated my way back to the basics in my exercise routine and how that can serve as a blueprint for your routine. I hope you enjoy this episode and my take on a popular topic.
