Following a huge response to our interview with Enzo, this episode explores trauma recovery and skating. Amelia shares definitions of trauma, emerging research on trauma and exercise and the mind-body connection, and some responses from our listeners. Stacey and Amelia share a little about their own experiences of trauma, as well as some ideas and tips about how to incorporate skating as a tool for health and wellbeing. Trigger warning this episode involves some discussion of psychological abuse and domestic violence.

Trauma resources: Bessel van der Kolk, Judith Herman and Bruce Perry are three key authors in the area of trauma, stress and mind/body connection. Each has written several books and articles, and there are several great videos on YouTube. Amelia recommends ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk and ‘Trauma and Recovery’ by Judith Herman as two excellent books. ‘The Trauma Project’ on Facebook is also an excellent place to find resources on trauma and recovery.
