Ken Chance began his recovery on January 10, 1994. Ten months later he was suicidal and entered a psychiatric hospital were he was diagnosed with major clinical depression. Ken was a "dual diagnosis" patient.From that experience he made a personal commitment to talk about depression in 12 step meetings for alcoholism. Despite the protestations of others, who believed in one primary purpose, Ken persisted saying: "I have one primary purpose - to live life happy, joyous, and free."In 2010 Ken founded Arrowhead Lodge, an alcohol and drug addiction treatment center for men. over the age of 30. Most of the clients had co-morbid diagnoses of depression, anxiety, or bi-polar disorders.Ken was on the front line of addiction and mental health with men from all walks of life: doctors, lawyers, scholars, business owners, musicians, veterans and more. His treatment team included a psychiatrist, psychologist, licensed counselors and an addictionologist. His experience in treating those individuals is the motivation for Mind Syrup, a podcast devoted to the same issues of substance abuse and mental health disorders.
