Stella Adler said, “You have to get beyond your own precious inner experiences. I want you to be able to see and share what you see with an audience, not just get wrapped up in yourself. The actor cannot afford to look only to his own life for all his material nor pull strictly from his own experience to find his acting choices and feelings. A great disservice was done to American actors when they were persuaded that they had to experience themselves on the stage instead of experiencing the play.”
